As an equation i think this would be:

4(x + 6) = x - 28

4x + 24 = x - 28

 

Now you can subtract 24 frm both sides of the equation:

4x + 24 - 24 = x - 28 - 24

4x = x - 52

 

Now you can subtract x from both sides of the equation:

4x - x = x - 52 - x

3x = - 52

 

Now you can divide both sides of the equation by 3 to find the value of x on it's own:

3(x)/3 = - 52/3

x = - 52/3

 

So the number you wanted to find is -52/3

subtracting 24 from both sides:

4 x number + 24 - 24 = 28 - 24 - number

adding 1 x number to each side:
