3z - 4 = 6z - 17

Now subtract 3z from both sides of the equation:

3z - 4 - 3z = 6z - 17 - 3z

- 4 = 3z - 17

Now you can add 17 to both sides of the equation:

- 4+ 17 = 3z - 17 + 17

17 - 4 = 3z

13 = 3z

So now you can divide both sides of the equation by 3 to find the value of 'z' on it's own:

13/3 = 3z/3

13/3 = z

So the answer is z = 13/3         (or  z = 4.33333.... )
