Well unless the equation says solve for X or there is another equation with X= something then yes X should be one because it does not tell you to solve for X or have a second equation.

Right now I am taking Algebra one and we are doing the solve by elimination and there are some questions with 2 equations such as {2x+y=10 and y=5}

So you would substitute the 5 in for the Y. So the new equation would be 2x+5=10.
