Can someone explain what a greatest common factor is? What would the greatest common factor of 60 and 46 be?
in Greatest Common Factor by
A Greatest Common Factor (or GCF) is when you list all the factors of the numbers you have and you find the biggest factor of BOTH the numbers. They MUST be the same.
Ex) 28 and 30.
You list al the factors of 28 and 30.
28- 1,2,4,7,14,28.
30- 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 10, 15, 30.
Both numbers have all their factors.
What is the factor that both numbers have that is the biggest? 2.
So your Greatest Common Factor (GCF) is 2.

The greatest common factor is the largest number that each number is divisable by in this case 6 x 8 =48 and 6 x 10 = 60.

6 is the largest number that will evenly go into each of the larger number therefore it is the greatest common factor.

Hi,the Greatest Common Factor is what ever you think ...actualy its the largest number that aech number is divisible by... THX/

ok so how you can solve this is by doing the prime factorization of each number:

60:2*2*5

46:2*23 then you see the highest number they have in common which is 2 because 2 is the only number they have tin common therefore that is the GCF of 60 and 46

what are the gcf for 60 and 15?

A greatest common factor is a factor bigger than 1, as I know. The G.C.F of 60 are 2, 3, 4, and 6.  I'll come up with the answer, or G.C.F for 46. Also, I'm in fourth grade.  laugh
