How many ball pens are available?

If each employee in a certain bank will be given three ball pens from the available supply, one of them would have to be satisfied with only two. But if each employee will be given two ball pens, 8 ball pens would remain. How many ball pens are available? Answer key is 20

Let the number of Employees be x

then,

3*x -1 = 2*x +8

x = 9

Therefore number of pens = 3*x -1 = 27 -1 =26 pens

I don't know why your answer is 20. My answer is 26 pens.
