The perimeter of a rectangle is 18 feet the length is 5 feet longer than the width find the dementions write a system of linear equations and solve the resulting system. let x be the length and y be the width

the first equation

2x + 2y =18

the second equation

x = y+
5

2(y + 5) + 2y = 18

4y + 10 = 18

4y = 18 -10 = 8

y = 4/2=2

x = 5+ 2 = 7
