6x - 3 = 5x - 5

First you can subtract 5x from both sides of the equation to get all the 'x' terms on the same side:

6x - 3 = 5x - 5

6x - 3 - 5x = 5x - 5x - 5

x - 3 = - 5

Now we can add 3 to both sides of the equation to find out what 'x' equals:

x - 3 = - 5

x - 3 + 3 = - 5 + 3

x = - 2         , this is the solution to the equation.    smiley
