what is y if  y+3y +1+2y=0

Group all the y-terms together.

(y + 3y + 2y) + 1 = 0

Now add all the y-terms together.

(6y) + 1 = 0

Rearrange.

6y = -1

Divide both sides by 6.

y = -1/6
