3(4y-7)=6

      +7=+6

    3(4y)=12

  3/      =12/3

      4y=4

    4/  =4/4

    y=1

the solution above is incorrect.

the solution should be y= 27/12
by
distribute the 3

3 times 4y is 12y

3 times -7 is -21

12y-21=6

add 21 to both sides

12y=27

divide both sides by 12

y=27/12
by
3(4y-7)=6 3(4y) is 12y and 3(-7) is -21 = 6 solve each of the parts in then parentesis by multiplying by 3 12y-21=6 rewrite the problem with new digits 12y = 21 + 6 12y = 27 12y/12 = 27/12 divide both sides by 12 y= 27/12 then you simplify y= 9/4 y = 2 1/4
