The width of a rectangle is one third the length.the perimeter is 48cm. Find the length and width.

Let the length of the rectangle be L.

Let the width of the rectangle be W.

Let the perimeter of the rectangle be P.   (P = 48)

P = 2(L + W)

P = 2(L + L/3)      (The width of a rectangle is one third the length)

48 = 8L/3

6 = L/3

L = 18

W = 6

Answer: Length, L = 18 cm, width, W = 6 cm
