How do I solve 3x+226=7(x-6)
I am not sure about procedure. when do I add and subtract?

You add and subtract AFTER you multiply.

3x + 226 = 7(x-6)
3x + 226 = 7x - 42
7x - 3x = 226 + 42
4x = 268
x = 67
