Problem: What is the ordered pair for 2x+3y = 1 and 5x-2y=-7
Solve the system by method of your choice.
2x+3y=1
5x-2y=-7
What is the solution set of the system?  Type an ordered pair

1) 2x + 3y = 1
2) 5x - 2y = -7

Multiply equation 1 by 2.

2(2x + 3y) = 1 * 2
3) 4x + 6y = 2

Multiply equation 2 by 3.

3(5x - 2y) = -7 * 3
4) 15x - 6y = -21

Add equation 3 to equation 4.

 15x -  6y = -21
+(4x + 6y =   2)
---------------------
 19x        = -19
19x = -19
x = -1

Now, solve for y.

2x + 3y = 1
2(-1) + 3y = 1
-2 + 3y = 1
-2 + 3y + 2 = 1 + 2
3y = 3
y = 1

Check.

5x - 2y = -7
5(-1) - 2(1) = -7
-5 - 2 = -7
-7 = -7

Answer: (-1, 1)
