6(x + 4) = 8(x - 2)

First you can multiply out the brackets:

6(x + 4) = 8(x - 2)
6(x) + 6(4) = 8(x) - 8(2)
6x + 24 = 8x - 16

Now you can add 16 to both sides of the equation:

6x + 24 + 16 = 8x - 16 + 16
6x + 40 = 8x

Now you can subtract 6x from both sides of the equation:

6x + 40 - 6x = 8x - 6x
40 = 2x

Now divide by 2 for both equations:

40/2 = (2x)/2
20 = x

And so the final solution is: x = 20         smiley
