Problem: What is 3/8 - 1/3?
What is 3/8 - 1/3 using subtracting fractions and mixed numbers?

We need the fractions to have a common denominator. The quickest
way to do that is to multiply the denominators: 3 * 8 = 24

3/8 = 9/24;  1/3 = 8/24

3/8 - 1/3 = 9/24 - 8/24
9/24 - 8/24 = 1/24

Answer: 3/8 - 1/3 = 1/24
