My friend doesn't believe my answer of -13

In arithmetic caculations, there is a certain order of operations. The rule for this is called BODMAS. Do a google search on that term.

For the above expression, all you need to know is that multiplication and division come before addition and subtraction.

So what you have is

3 - 3 x 6 + 2 =

Since multiplication takes precedence above addition or subtraction, then you do that first.

If we carry out the multiplication, then we get,

3 - 18 + 2 =

Now we carry out the addition and subtraction operations, in any order.

Going from left to right we get

-15 + 2 =

-13

So your answer is correct
