Problem: how do you solve 10 1/6 - 3 4/5?
HELP!!! i suck at this !
Change the mixed numbers into improper fractions. Multiply
the whole number by the denominator and add the numerator,
then place that number over the denominator.
10 1/6 = ((10 * 6) + 1) / 6 = 61/6
3 4/5 = ((3 * 5) + 4) / 5 = 19/5
In order to add fractions, both denominators must be the same.
Multiply 61/6 by 5/5 (5/5 is 1, so the value doesn't change).
Multiply 19/5 by 6/6 (same notation as above).
(61/6) * (5/5) = 305/30
(19/5) * (6/6) = 114/30
Now, you can add them.
305/30 + 114/30 = 419/30
Convert that to a mixed number by doing the division.
419/30 = 13 29/30
(13 * 30 = 390. Subtract 390 from 419, leaving 29)
