let x = sales tax

14.95 + (14.95) x = 15.85          (subtract 14.95 on both sides)

                 14.95 x = .09               (divide both sides with 14.95)

                            x = .06               ( move decimal point 2 places to the right then add % sign)

                           x = 6%
