I can not figure out how to reduce numbers and I am haveing a lot of trouble with this one

     how do you fully reduce 17 over 6?? PLEASE HELP!!!!

17/6 = 8.5

8 + 0.5 = 8.5

8 + 1/2 = 8/1/2

You cant reduce 17 over 6 to get a whole number.
