Problem: solve for x. 2y=-x-6 and -3x+y=-10
use each system by solving ?

2y = -x - 6
-3x + y = -10

-3x + y = -10
y = 3x - 10

2y = -x - 6
2(3x - 10) = -x - 6
6x - 20 = -x - 6
6x - 20 + x = -x - 6 + x
7x - 20 = -6
7x - 20 + 20 = -6 + 20
7x = 14
7x/7 = 14/7
x = 2

2y = -x - 6
2y = -2 - 6
2y = -8
y = -4

Verify:

-3x + y = -10
-3(2) + (-4) = -10
-6 - 4 = -10
-10 = -10

Answer: x = 2

You didn't ask for y, but it was necessary to
solve for y to verify that the value for x was correct.
