Otis made 1 3/5 cups of oatmeal he put 2/5 cup of oatmeal into each bowl how many bowls of oatmeal did Otis make? use an equation to solve e problem

If Otis has 1 3/5 cups of oatmeal

And 2/5 cups go into each bowl of oatmeal,

Then we want to find how often 2/5 cups goes into 1 3/5 cups.

Let n be the number of bowls of oatmeal.

Let V be the total volume of oatmeal, and V = 1 3/5 cups

Let v be the volume of each cup of oatmeal, and v = 2/5 cups.

Then our equation is: V = n*v

i.e. the total volume is the number of cups times the volume of each cup

So V = n*v

Using V = 1 3/5, and v = 2/5, then

1 3/5 = n*(2/5)     multiply each side by 5.

5 + 3 = n*2

8 = 2n

n = 4

Therefore the number of bowls of oatmeal made is n = 4
