How do I subtract 8 3/8 - 6 5/12? Step by step

You should make them all improper fractions with the same denominator.

8 3/8 - 6 5/12              (convert to improper fractions)

67/8 - 77/12                (give both fractions a common denominator, which is 24)

(3*67)/24 - (2*77)/24

201/24 - 154/24

(201 - 154)/24

47/24               (there are no common factors, therfore this is the answer)
