Problem: What is The answer to -4y+8=-4(2y+3)
Need It Quick!

-4y + 8 = -4(2y + 3)

Work the right side first, because of the parentheses.

-4y + 8 = -8y - 12
-4y + 8 + 8y = -8y - 12 + 8y
4y + 8 = -12
4y + 8 - 8 = -12 - 8
4y = -20
4y/4 = -20/4
y = -5

Always check the answer.

-4y + 8 = -4(2y + 3)
-4(-5) + 8 = -4(2(-5) + 3)
20 + 8 = -4(-10 + 3)
28 = -4(-7)
28 = 28
