Problem: How do you solve 7/20 = 11/20 ?
I have a friend who is in a Math 1010 class who can't figure out this problem and I don't remember much from that class...

You don't! You have two distinct quantities that are not equal.

You might as well say 12 = 568, or any other absurdity.

Imagine taking any object and dividing it into twenty pieces.
Take seven of them and set them to one side.
Then, take eleven of the remaining pieces and set them aside as well.
No matter how you look at those two separate piles, they will NEVER be equal.
