nine is the answer because 5*3=4

                                        2*8=2

                                        5*1=6

                                        6*3=3

                                        1*7=?

in the first one it equals 4

4 + 2 (from the second sum) equals 6 in the third sum.

so 6 + 3 (from the fourth) must equal 9 in the last sum.
