y = 2x - 1

2x - 1 = x + 1
2x - 1 - x = x + 1 - x
x - 1 = 1
x - 1 + 1 = 1 + 1
x = 2

y = x + 1
y = 2 + 1
y = 3

Check it.

y = 2x - 1
3 = 2(2) - 1
3 = 4 - 1
3 = 3

Answer: x = 2, y = 3
