The screen of a 20" t.v. refers rto the diagnol screen size, if the 20" t.v. has a width of 16" what is the  height?

d^2 = w^2 + h^2
20^2 = 16^2 + h^2
20^2 - 16^2 = h^2
h^2 = 400 - 256
h^2 = 144
h = sqrt(144)
h = +12  and  -12

We can ignore the negative height.

h = 12 inches
