Problem: -3 -7 = 3x +7x -12x
-3 -7 = 3x + 7x -12x       simplify both sides as much a possible, then solve

-3 - 7 = 3x + 7x - 12x
-10 = -2x
-10/-2 = -2x/-2
5 = x
