5 divided 2 1/2

The best way to start is to turn 2 1/2 into one fraction,

So, 2 1/2 is the same as 4/2 + 1/2 = (4 + 1)/2 = 5/2

Therefore, 5 divided 2 1/2 = 5 ÷ (5/2)

You can then change 5 ÷ (5/2) = 5 x (2/5)

You can do this with any number that is divided by a fraction, all you need to do is change the '÷' to a 'x' and then flip the fraction you're dividing by so that the number that was on the top of the fraction is now on the bottom and vice versa

So  5 x (2/5) = (5 x 2) / 5 = 10 / 5

This fraction can then be simplified further, so that

10 /5 = 2

So the final answer is  5 divided 2 1/2  =  2
