4/3+5/4

To add fractions the denominator (number on the bottom half of the fraction) has to be the same on all the fractions.

So, 4/3 + 5/4 = (4/3)x(4/4) + (5/4)x(3/3)

You can the multiply the top numbers of the fractions together and then multiply the bottom numbers together.

So, (4x4)/(3x4) + (5x3)/(4x3) = 16/12 + 15/12

Since the bottom numbers of the fractions are now both the same you can add the top numbers together.

So, 16/12 + 15/12 = (16 + 15)/12 = 31/12

This gives the final answer as,

4/3 + 5/4 = 31/12
