(X/2) - (1/5) = (3/2)

Add (1/5) to both sides:

(X/2) - (1/5) + (1/5) = (3/2) + (1/5)

(X/2) = (3/2) + (1/5)

Then you need to put the fractions over the same denominator (the number on the bottom of the fraction):

(X/2) = (3/2)x(5/5) + (1/5)x(2/2)

(X/2) = (3x5)/(2x5) + (1x2)/(5x2)

(X/2) = (15/10) + (2/10)

(X/2) = (15 + 2)/10 = 17/10

Then multiply both sides of the equation by 2:

(X/2)x2 = (17/10)x2

(2X)/2 = (17x2)/10

X = 34/10

This answer can then be simplified:

X = (34/10) = (34/2)/(10/2) = 17/5
