How long is the diagonal of a 9in by 40 in rectangle?

Using Pythagoras' theorem,

diagonal-squared = base-squared + length-squared

diagonal-squared = 9^2 + 40^2 = 81 + 1600 = 1681

diagonal = sqrt(1681) = 41

diagonal = 41 in
