How do I reduce 16/24?

divide both the numerator and the denominater by the greatest common number

16/ 24 divide both by 8 and we have 2/3

4 goes into 16, 4 times and 4 goes into 24, 6 times.  Answer is 4/6 or 2/3.  Because 2 goes into 4, 2 times, and 2 goes into 6, 3 times.

Reduction is based on a number going into both numerator and denominator evenly.
