FIrst of all multiply the fraction on the first half by 3 so the bottom number is 15.  This makes this number 9/15.  This is the same fraction as it was before because it can be simplified back again.

Next, multiply both sides of the equation by 15.  All this does is takes away the fraction as it now reads 9=x+2

take 2 from both sides then you will see that x=7
