5(x-1)/4=3(x+1)/2

(5x -5)/4 = (3x+3)/2

multiply the equation to the right of the equal sign by 1 in the form of 2/2 to get the same denominator as the left side. This won't change the value of the equation.

{(3x+3)/2} *2 = (6x+6)/4

so now we have the new equation that looks like this:

(5x -5)/4 =(6x+6)/4

add the numerators since the denominators are equal

(5x -5) +(6x+6)/4

take away the braces and add like terms to simplify

(5x +6x+6-5 ) /4

(11x +1) /4

divide the numerator by the denominator and solve for x

2.75x = -0.25

2.75/-0.25 = x

-11 = x
