Problem: 5 - 3( 4x -2) = 8x + 2( 3x -6) =
5-3(4x-2) = 8x + 2(3x-6)

5 - 3(4x - 2) = 8x + 2(3x - 6)
5 - 12x + 6 = 8x + 6x - 12
-12x + 11 = 14x - 12
-12x + 11 - 14x = 14x - 12 - 14x
-26x + 11 = -12
-26x + 11 - 11 = -12 - 11
-26x = -23
-26x/-26 = -23/-26
x = 23/26

Check.

5 - 3(4x - 2) = 8x + 2(3x - 6)
5 - 3(4(23/26) - 2) = 8(23/26) + 2(3(23/26) - 6)
5 - 3(92/26 - 2) = 184/26 + 2(69/26 - 6)
5 - 3(92/26 - 52/26) = 184/26 + 2(69/26 - 156/26)
5 - 3(40/26) = 184/26 + 2(-87/26)
5 - 120/26 = 184/26 - 174/26
130/26 - 120/26 = 184/26 - 174/26
10/26 = 10/26

No need to reduce the fractions. All that matters
is that they are equal.

Answer: x = 23/26
