are you not allowed a calculator?  If so put in 712 * 0.012 which gives 8.544.  

If not allowed a calculator, do 0.01 * 712 ie move decimal point 2 places to left to leave 7.12 then add on 2 lots of 7.12* 0.001.

 

Ans is 8.544
