Why is the above problems solution - 6
32 2/5 + 16 1/2 = 6

It isn't 6. Think about it. Just adding the two
whole numbers, 32 and 16, gives 48. Then you
are adding and additional 2/5 and 1/2. The answer
is nowhere near 6!

32 2/5 + 16 1/2 =

You need the fractions to have a common denominator.

32 4/10 + 16 5/10 =
48 9/10
