4x + 3y = 6
4x + 3y = 6
5x -3y=21

4x + 3y = 6
5x - 3y = 21

Eliminate y by adding the equations.

   4x + 3y =   6
+(5x - 3y = 21)
-------------------
   9x        = 27
9x = 27
x = 3

With the value of x, you can solve either
of the original equations for y.

5x - 3y = 21
5(3) - 3y = 21
15 - 3y = 21
-3y = 21 - 15
-3y = 6
y = -2

Check your answer by using the other equation.

4x + 3y = 6
4(3) + 3(-2) = 6
12 - 6 = 6
6 = 6

Answer: x = 3, y = -2
