Solve (1/2)+(2/x)=(3/4)

find the common denominator by cross-multiplying

make each of the denominators equal to 4x

(1/2)(2x)+(2/x)(4) = (3/4)(x)

(2x/4x)+(8/4x)=(3x/4x)

lets place every thing on the same side of the equal sign and since the denominators are common, we can add the numerators.

(2x+8-3x)/4x=0

simplify and divide the numerator by the denominator

(8-x)/4x =0

(8/4x)-(x/4x)=0

cancel out:

2(x)-(1/4)=0

2-(x/4)=0

2=x/4

2*4= (x/4)*4

8=x
