7x - 4y = 12 and x + y = 12

multiply the second equation by 4

becomes 4x + 4y = 48

add it to the first equation and the y's cancel

11x = 60 so x = 60/11

then 60/11 + y = 12

so y = 72/11

(60/11, 72/11)
