-log(x+2) = 1

divide both sides by -1

log(x+2) = -1

keeping in mind that log is base 10, use the definition of logarithm to change it to

10^(-1) = x + 2

then 1/10 = x +2 and

x = 1/10 - 2

x = -19/10

x = -1.9
