1 Answer

1/x + 1/x+4 = x+5/x+4

since x+4 is a common denominator for two of the pieces, subtract 1/x+4 from both sides.

1/x = x+5/x+4 - 1/x+4

the right can be simplified then

1/x = x+4/x+4

the right is then = to 1

so 1/x = 1, multiply both sides by x and x=1
