I can't remember whether you take the unshaded part and say thats the denominator, and then the rest (11) be the numerator or if you take the the 11 shaded and then the 12 alltogether and say its 12/11.

Im taking algebra and im in 7th grade, usually i remember this stuff but it's kinda slipped my mind which way it is...im trying to help my 4th grade brother and it's kinda embarrasing not to remember this so if you couldtell me how this works again i'd be happy to read!
