When calculating median we first need to put the numbers in order from lowest to highest

so we have 15, 72, 98, 110, 119, 119, 123, 142, 164, 178

The median is the middle data point. Since we have 10 numbers there is no exact middle point so we take the two middle points which are both 119, add them together and divide by 2. Because both numbers are the same we get 119 as the median.

put the data in increasing order; least to greatest.  then find the number in the center, by crossing off #'s on least end & then greatest end.  ie: cross of 15, then 178, 72, then 164, 98, then 142, 110, then 123.  usually there will be one number remaining, which wil be the median.  However, in this example there are 2 #'s remaining.  Find their average (add together & divide by 2).  Answer= 119
