a. 4-v < 5 and 4-v > (-5)

b.  for both equations subtract 4 from both sides and divide by -1, remember when dividing by a negative you must flip the sign

so, 4-v < 5 is -v < 1 and then v > -1

and 4-v > (-5) is -v > -9 and then v < 9

as a compound inequality it would be -1<v<9
