7 - 8x = 7(1 + 7x)

distribute the 7 into the parentheses

7 - 8x = 7 + 49x

subtract 7 from both sides

7 - 7 - 8x = 7 - 7 + 49x

simplify

-8x = 49x

add 8x to both sides

-8x + 8x = 49x + 8x

simplify

0 = 57x

divide both sides by 57

x = 0
