how do you solve 2/3 + 1/4 - 4 * 1/8
Thanks for any help you can give.

In any problem that involves multiplication or division,
you always perform that first. It is the same as putting
parentheses around that operation.

2/3 + 1/4 - 4 * 1/8
2/3 + 1/4 - (4 * 1/8)
2/3 + 1/4 - 1/2

Now change the fractions to a common denominator.

(2/3)(4/4) + (1/4)(3/3) - (1/2)(6/6)
8/12 + 3/12 - 6/12
(8 + 3 - 6)/12
5/12
