We cannot solve for x and y, but we can represent x in terms of y and vice versa.

3x + 2 = 1y + 14
3x = y + 14 - 2
3x = y + 12
x = (y + 12) / 3
x = (1/3)y + 4

This is representing x in terms of y.

3x + 2 = 1y + 14
3x + 2 - 14 = y
y = 3x - 12

This is representing y in terms of x.
