1/3+1/4+3/8=5.00
JON SPENT 1/3 OF HIS ALLOWANCE ON BASEBALL CARDS,
1/4 ON BASEBALL SOUVENOIRS AND 3/8 ON A TICKET,
HE HAD 5.00 LEFT HOW MUCH DID HE START WITH

I must point out that your equation is wrong. The fractions represent
what he spent; that cannot equal the 5.00 that was left. The equation
should be x - 1/3 x - 1/4 x - 3/8 x = 5.00

Focus on the portion that was spent: 1/3 + 1/4 + 3/8
To make it work, we need a common denominator: it has to be 24

(1/3)(8/8) + (1/4)(6/6) + (3/8)(3/3)
8/24 + 6/24 + 9/24
(8 + 6 + 9)/24
23/24

Jon spent 23/24 of his money, leaving only 1/24
That 1/24 is the 5.00 he had left. The equation
we want to solve is (1/24)x = 5.00

(1/24)x = $5.00
x = $5.00 * 24
x = $120.00

He started with $120
He spent 1/3, $40, on baseball cards
He spent 1/4, $30, on baseball souvenirs
He spent 3/8, $45, on a ticket
He spent $40 + $30 + $45 = $115 on junk!
That left $5.00
