Problem: 2y+x y=5/8 x=4/7
need help solving this question for class

You are given values for both x and y.
Substitute them into the part you are trying to solve.

2y + x
2(5/8) + 4/7
5/4 + 4/7

Multiply the demoninators to find a common denominator:
4 * 7 = 28
Change both fractions into equivalent fractions with
28 as the denominator.

(5/4)(7/7) + (4/7)(4/4)
35/28 + 16/28
51/28

Reduce that.

Answer: 1 23/28
